New blood pressure guidelines aim to be more flexible for people with
heart disease.
For those at risk of heart attack or stroke, the American Heart Association reinforces the guideline of having a blood pressure level no higher than 140 over 90. For those with heart disease, the new recommended guideline is 130 over 80. The last guideline updates were made in 2007.
In other health news, tobacco company
Swedish Match wants the Food and
Drug Administration to designate its brand of ‘General Snus’ safer than other forms of tobacco. Snus look like tiny tea bags filled with powder tobacco that comes in a variety of flavors. The company asks the FDA to remove the health warning label on its tins and replace it with a label that Snus is safer than other tobacco products. If done, it would be the first of its kind. The FDA will hold a two day hearing starting April 9th.
