Burger king is dropping sugary sodas from its kid’s meal options.
Apple juice, low fat chocolate milk and non fat milk will now be offered options on their kid’s meals. Fountains drinks will still be available, just not on the kids menu. And they are not the only ones. McDonald’s and Wendy’s have made the beverage switch earlier this year, pressured by advocacy groups campaigning to curb childhood obesity. According to the obesity action coalition, soft drinks, sports drinks, fruit drinks and energy drinks are being consumed more than ever by children and teenagers. Over the past 25 years Americans have doubled their soda consumption, drinking an average of 1.6 sodas each day. The CDC reports obesity in children has doubled in the last 30 years and quadrupled in adolescents.
