If you suffer from migraines you are not alone, an estimated 36 million Americans live with these severe headaches.
When a migraine happens the blood vessels in the head dilate and stretch out nerve endings, causing pain. Medications can relieve some symptoms but there is no cure. Research has shown that while sudden high intensity exercise can provoke migraines--- low impact exercise like riding a stationary bicycle can ease the painful headaches. A Swedish study from 2008 found indoor cycling actually improved migraine symptoms over a three month period for most participants. Doctors recommend the following tips to prevent or decrease migraine pain: stay hydrated before and after working out, take naproxen or ibuprofen before a work out and pay close attention to the intensity of your work outs.
