Ever wish you could exercise at work? Well one company in Minnesota ditched their chairs for treadmills to see if it would improve their health and overall productivity. Researchers at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management studied forty employees for a year whose work space areas were refitted to include a treadmill in front of their desks. After monitoring the employees they found that productivity levels and creativity increased from walking as slow as 2 mph all day. Six years ago financial and human resources company SALO created a similar work environment, revamping their meeting room with four treadmills facing each other. The company used the meeting room to figure out work issues and brainstorm ideas. Those involved in the study burned eight percent more calories each day than they normally would have. Treadmill desks can run anywhere from one to four thousand dollars. It may be something our newsroom needs to invest in.
