Parents and kids listen up! There’s another Back to School Fair going on right here in McAllen this Thursday, just in time for the school year.
The City of McAllen held a press conference last Friday to kick off their Back to School Fair event. They teamed up with national retailer Walgreens, the McAllen Police Department, McAllen ISD and Doctor’s Hospital of Renaissance to get kids and parents prepared.
“Well it’s back to school you know that’s not too joyful for the kids, but everybody’s got to go so this is to try to make it a smooth transition for the kids. We know that some kids don’t have all the books and the paper and the pencils and so we make that opportunity so that everybody has something,” says Mayor Jim Darling, McAllen, TX.
The event will take place this Thursday, August 15th from 3 until 7 p.m. at the McAllen Convention Center. All services are free to the public. In addition to receiving school supplies, basic health screenings and hair cuts will be provided.
Don’t forget to add our Commit to Fit Health walk to your calendar. We’re walking next Wednesday, August 21st at La Vista Park in McAllen in support of Minority Donor Awareness Month so be sure to wear green!
