Researchers Coming Close to Diabetes Cure

3 million Americans suffer from the incurable type one diabetes, but researchers are one step closer to finding a cure. Type one diabetics rely on regular insulin injections or an insulin pump to regulate their blood sugar levels, but Harvard researchers have made embryonic stem cells produce insulin. When the cells were transferred to diabetic mice, blood sugar levels were regulated and their diabetes was cured within ten days. Six months later the results remained the same. The next step is to begin clinical trials with humans in the next three years. In other diabetes news, this month's dessert with a doc is tomorrow evening at the San Benito municipal building.
