HE-71MO respiratory virus/CDC-seeing clusters enteroviruses, which can cause mild to severe colds, are sending hundreds of children to hospitals across the Midwest. So far, ten states have contacted the centers for disease control and prevention for assistance in investigating the clusters of the enterovirus d68. “We don't know as much as we'd like to about this virus. We're helping states as they investigate possible clusters. But testing for this virus is routine, so there are many different germs that are circulating right now and we don't know how much them are caused by this new virus,” explains dr. Ann Schuchat, director for immunization and respiratory diseases CDC. Enteroviruses bring on symptoms similar to a very intense cold, often times happening in the summer. And the season hits its peak in September. Be on the lookout for the following symptoms: A fever, skin rash, runny or itchy nose, sneezing, coughing and body and muscle aches. Infants, children with asthma and people with weakened immune systems are the most at risk.
