The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is proving to be much worse than expected and the CDC is alarming officials.
Yet another missionary doctor in Monrovia has tested positive for Ebola and is now in isolation. It is unknown how the aid contracted the disease.
According to the world health organization more than three thousand people have been infected and just over half of those people have died since the outbreak started in December.
CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden visited West Africa to see the epidemic firsthand.
Believes restricting travel to and from the region is actually hurting relief efforts.
“The measures that have been taken that have made it harder to fly in and fly out have made it harder to get help in and harder to control the epidemic and therefore paradoxically have increased risks to other places,” explains Dr. Tom Frieden, CDC director.
President Obama released a video statement speaking to the people in West Africa and promising support from the U-S.
“Stopping this disease won't be easy but we know how to do it. You are not alone. Together we can treat those who are sick with respect and dignity. We can save lives,” says president Obama.
In fact the FDA has given the green light to begin vaccine trial testing for the disease this week.
