World Blood Donor Day this Saturday

World Blood Donor Day is this Saturday and FOX2 has a way for you to make an impact on the world. This Saturday United Blood Services will be holding blood donation drives at locations Valley wide. The World Health Organization says that many countries face a much higher demand for blood donations than others. Ensuring that enough blood is readily available and meets the quality and safety standards is another challenge. While many countries base national blood supplies on voluntary unpaid blood donations, many still rely on family donors and even paid donors. The organization's goal is to have one hundred percent volunteer donors by 2020. This year's World Blood Donor Day theme is Safe Blood for Saving Mothers, to increase awareness about why safe and accessible blood is necessary to prevent maternal deaths. This Saturday, UBS will be set up taking blood donations at Moonbeans Coffee House in McAllen, Best Buy, UBS McAllen and Harlingen locations and the Valle Vista Mall in Harlingen.
