Texas Libraries To Reshape Childhood Obesity

One woman is reshaping Texas with the help of the Texas Library Association.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs visited McAllen’s main library today to unveil her latest childhood obesity initiative, Reshaping Texas.

Her office is providing 15,000 fitness and health-related books and DVD’s geared forchildren and pre-teens from all nine hundred and ten state public libraries.

More than eleven hundred public elementary schools will receive free sports equipment.

“We have discovered that many families don’t even know what’s healthy. They don’t know about portion size. Kids don’t know about it and the way to have healthy adults is to start with the children,” says Susan Combs, Texas Comptroller.

With America’s childhood obesity rate reaching 17 percent, triple of what it was within the past decade, Combs and her team hope to kick obesity to the curb. For additional information and health resources, visit ReshapingTexas.gov.

FOX2 is reshaping the Rio Grande Valley with our next Commit to Fit Health Walk July 24th at La Vista Park in McAllen at 7 p.m. Be sure to bring the kids, wear green and a good pair of walking shoes. We will have experts to answer all your back-to-school vaccination questions.
