The FDA is issuing a new health warning about jerky pet treats imported from China. There have been more than 18-hundred reported cases since the last warning was issued in October. A majority of the jerky treats were from China, with flavors that include chicken, duck and sweet potato. The agency reports a total of 48-hundred complaints and one thousand dog deaths. As of now, the agency has not been able to pinpoint an exact name brand of dog treats. Officials warn that staying away from treats made in China may not guarantee safety. The FDA is continuing its investigation to find out what exactly is causing the illnesses. Be on the look out for the following symptoms: vomiting, decreased appetite or increased water intake that lasts more than 24 hours after eating a jerky treat. Pet owners are urged to contact their veterinarian immediately and are encouraged to report it to the FDA by calling 1-800-INFO-FDA or visiting the FDA's website.
