A new Gallup poll finds that only one-in-three Americans visit the dentist each year, a statistic that remains unchanged since 2008. The American Dental Association recommends you visit the dentist a minimum of once a year, about 64.7 percent do. Poor oral care is linked to cavities, gingivitis and a link between cardiovascular disease and stroke. In other health news, nail salons that use ultraviolet lamps to dry nail polish may be increasing your risk of skin cancer. Researchers found that it would have to take multiple manicures for these lamps to cause damage. After testing 17 different lamps at salons, researchers calculated it would take between eight and 208 visits to damage skin cells and raise cancer risk. But it could become a concern for manicurists who interact with the machines on a daily basis.
