Car safety seat company Graco is recalling 3.7 million car seats because of defective harness buckles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA, it is the fourth largest car seat recall in history which includes 11 models made from 2009 to 2013. In most cases, consumers had to cut the harness straps to remove the child from the seat. Federal safety regulations say an addition 1.8 million rear-facing infant car seats should be added to the recall list. The company has been sending free replacement buckles to customers upon request since last summer and online video tutorials on how to install the new harness straps. So far there are no reported injuries associated with the issue. The NHTSA is advising any parents to check their buckles for any defects and contact Graco if replacement harnesses are needed or use another car safety seat until the company has fixed the issue.
