According to the association for pet obesity prevention, more than half of U.S dogs and cats are obese or overweight, leaving ninety-three-million pets at risk.

With type two diabetes on the rise for cats and cardiovascular disease increasing in dogs.

Many pet owners are scrambling to find acceptable diets for their four legged companions.

Veterinarian doctor Jeff Werber has suggestions for what you should give your pet, if you want to give them human food.

I am not one of those types that says, Oh my God you can never give something.

But if you give human treats, try things like a carrot, or a piece of apple without the skin or some white meat turkey breast.

Things like that, you want to stay away from toxic foods or foods that are very high in fat.

Dr. Werber also recommends a visit to the vet to know your pet’s ideal weight and adjust the amount of human food and regular food you feed your pet as well as their exercise regimen.

Neglecting your pet’s health can take two and a half years off their life.

There are signs to tell if your pet is at a healthy weight. Check to see if their ribs can be felt easily; check for sagging skin and notice if your pet has a visible waist.
